About
My name is Franny Syufy. I have been writing about cats for About.com since February, 1997. In May of 2006, my first book, “Lucy, the Loch Ness Llama” was published. It was illustrated gloriously by Martine Carlsen, a very talented writer and graphic artist, who lives in Denmark. I am currently planning an anthology of true stories and fiction, to be called “Once Upon a Cat.”
On May 2nd, 2008, Asa Syufy, my husband, best friend, and mentor, died after a 40+ month valiant fight against malignant melanoma. His final year consisted of some of the most horrifying times of my life, as well as some of the sweetest. I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary 29 days after he left, but know in my heart that he was (and still is) with me. It was Asa who first introduced me to cats, and he became somewhat well-known as The Man Behind the Cats on my About.com site.
Today I share my home with my adult son, Lance, a U.S. Army veteran, and our four cats: Jaspurr, Joey, Billy, and Jenny. Lance takes care of all of us, which makes it possible for me to continue to work. I’m not sure if I’d have survived the past several years without his support.
