Hello World

Big Kitten JaspurrIt’s been over 12 years since I first tiptoed into AOL, scared of my shadow. That was about the time of the great user revolution, and after being scared to death I’d embarrass myself in the World Wide Web, I timidly set foot forth and found myself in Disneyland! I absolutely loved it, and couldn’t wait to learn HTML and create one of those colorful, gaudy sites, loaded with pictures and graphics, blinking fonts and all the other bells and whistles that were all the rage back then. My site had about 50 pages in it, and was a nightmare to load, even with my 16-whatever baud dialup. Always had the latest technology back then!

My first site was called “Vanny’s Web Cabin,” and I like to think it started the trend in “home-away-from-home” sites that soon became popular. It was popular enough – won the Championship in the Site Fights when that site was first taking off, as well as coming in second place in the Site of the Year championship bout.

Anyway, a few years later, after running my own web design business for a couple of years (didn’t we ALL?), I heard of a new web venture called The Mining Company , applied to be a Guide, and the rest, as they say, is history. I’ve been writing about cats for About.com (formerly TMC) for 10 years now, and it is my dream gig. I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but I’m ready now to take on some more ventures, including writing a book or two, which are both in progress.

I thought it was about time to add a new personal site to my repertoire, and this blog will become part of it. Enough long-winded blathering for now.

It’s good to be here, and good to be alive!
